3 Stories on the Difference SNAP Makes
From students, to parents, to seniors, SNAP makes a lasting difference in people’s lives. We caught up with SNAP applicants approved for benefits months after their enrollment and they shared their feedback about what it was like to apply and how the benefits help them today.
SNAP: Keeping Students Enrolled
One student Hanna P in San Francisco shared, "I attempted to enroll twice in CalFresh. First, I attempted once without mRelief. I could not figure out what they needed. My husband is in a PhD program, so he gets an annual stipend. It is a unique scenario, so I could not figure out how what they needed. I just kept getting rejected. When I found your service, it was really easy."
Hanna went on to share this: "Without it, we could have made ends meet. But with CalFresh, we have the ability to eat better food, like fresh produce. In all honesty, it has kept us in the area. Without assistance programs, we probably would have tried to transfer and move away. Assistance programs have enabled us to live here."
SNAP: Helping Seniors Eat
Suesann Robbins a senior in San Francisco shared this about her experience: “It was so much easier getting through the CalFresh process with mRelief. I was on food stamps years ago and it took forever to get it and I had to go to one place to apply and one place to pick up the food stamps -- I ended up giving up on it. Now it’s much simpler and much friendlier...and having a ride there and back was a real bonus as I am disabled.”
“CalFresh has really, really helped me,” concluded Suesan Robbins of San Francisco County.
SNAP: Helping Moms Feed Their Kids
“I needed some help feeding these kids. I have a 2 year old and 12 year old,” said Cairo Terry a mom in San Francisco, California. “I applied online and uploaded my paystubs through the mRelief website and they got the card out really fast.”

The food Cairo bought with her benefits in her fridge and pantry.
