Since 2016, mRelief’s eligibility screener has been completed by 743,751 families. For the 42 states that follow broad-based categorical eligibility requirements, that makes most households with incomes below a certain threshold categorically eligible for SNAP.; mRelief’s screener uses data provided by the FNS on data.gov. In the remaining eight states, mRelief gathers the eligibility requirements directly from the states.

The questions ask about the following concepts:

  • Gross monthly income limit based on household size

  • Asset limit

  • Citizenship Status

  • Student Status

Across the country, the gross income limit ranges from 130% to 200% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL). To put that into perspective, 130% FPL for a household size of 3 is $2,311 per month and 200% FPL is $3,555 per month.

States consider the asset limit in three different ways:

  • 21 states and DC do not consider household assets for SNAP eligibility

  • 16 states have an asset limit for all households

  • 13 states have an asset limit for seniors or people receiving disability payments who are above the gross income limit, but below the net income limit

To make the screener as easy as possible to complete, questions about household size, income and assets are written as multiple choice questions instead of form fields.

For families who likely qualify, the screener explains the eligibility criteria and directs them to the fastest way to apply: either an online application or a hotline to apply by phone.

For families who are likely ineligible, the screener provides alternative food, housing and shelter resources. It also gives people the option to submit an application anyway if they would like to.

Additionally, as the country, especially government agencies, encounters a plethora of concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a surge in demand and volume of individuals reaching out to local, state and federal agencies for much needed services and resources especially related to SNAP benefits. mRelief has solutions that are data-driven and proven to combat these burdens for both the Government and Americans in need by working with Winvale to list additional products on the GSA schedule for agencies to purchase, helping to resolve and manage Americans who are eligible for SNAP benefits, process applications in as little as 10 minutes. These additional products that will be added to the GSA schedule soon are:

  • mRelief’s full end-to-end process for (eligible) SNAP / EBT in increments of (but not limited to):

    • 12,500 eligible SNAP applications

    • 25,000 eligible SNAP applications
