Impact Beyond the Numbers

In Idaho, one of the biggest barriers to SNAP access isn’t eligibility—it’s awareness and helping people realize it is okay to ask for help. Many individuals and families who qualify never apply, often because the process feels overwhelming, unclear, or out of reach.

mRelief has been especially effective in community-based settings, where outreach happens in real time, like at weekend meal distributions, resource events, and through local partnerships across the state.

mRelief’s Johnnie platform is easy to navigate for those of us assisting clients. There are also opportunities to strengthen the platform based on field experience. Features such as easier rescheduling for missed appointments and the ability to retain filters or user preferences would improve efficiency and help ensure fewer missed connections. These insights come directly from active use and reflect the potential to make an already strong tool even more effective.

Beyond the numbers, the impact of mRelief is deeply personal.

One Idaho client, Julie, initially connected with our team at Hunger Free Idaho through the mRelief pre-screener and was identified as likely eligible for SNAP. After completing her application with support, she expressed interest in the work itself. What began as a conversation about benefits turned into an opportunity. Julie asked if we were hiring, and I told her yes. Julie applied, interviewed, and was hired to do benefits access work.

Today, she is helping others navigate the same process she experienced firsthand.

Julie's story is a great example of what’s possible when tools are paired with human connection. It shows that this work is not only about meeting immediate needs, but also about building pathways for individuals to engage, contribute, and lead.

At its core, mRelief helps remove barriers and restore dignity to the process of seeking assistance. In Idaho, it has become an essential tool for connecting people to food, support, and opportunity, one client at a time.
