Trending in #SNAP
It was all hands on deck this month on Twitter, where food security advocates from various organizations nationwide tweeted #HandsOffSNAP and #ProtectSNAP. The nonprofit Food Policy Action planned the Twitter conversation in conjunction with American Progress and the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP) in order to stir conversation about the strict eligibility requirements posed by the Trump Administration.

CBPP shared data around the SNAP program’s success in supporting low-income individuals who are able to work to do so.
The current rule in place already supports work. The proposed rule would weaken SNAP’s role in supporting work while making it harder for families that struggle to get by on low wages to meet their basic needs: https://t.co/mnJqTquELI#HandsOffSNAP pic.twitter.com/7vbIAhNWDS

The SNAP program also impacts many School Meals Programs, as No Kid Hungry pointed out.
Restricting this policy will result in 3 million low-income people losing access to SNAP, and over 500,000 kids losing automatic eligibility for free school meals. Make you voice heard: https://t.co/LZM9K6W1uN #ProtectSNAP #HandsOffSNAP pic.twitter.com/YpHYh89cgV

An ACA Advocate highlighted the detrimental impact this proposed change would have on people with disabilities:
People w/disabilities like myself, are more likely to be financially insecure.
Trump's LATEST attack on SNAP disqualifies those w/disabilities whose assets exceed $3500, so those trying to save & get ahead LOSE food assistance.

SNAP has a crucial impact on seniors, reducing hospital admissions and improving nutrition among them. The Food Research & Action Center shared SNAP’s importance to the demographic:
👴 SNAP is proven first line of defense against food insecurity for older adults.
Comment *now* to prevent the Trump admin. from taking SNAP benefits from 3M+ people, including many seniors: https://t.co/DjiXQ38dVa #HandsOffSNAP pic.twitter.com/UDcuaAtI9F— Food Research & Action Center (@fractweets) August 14, 2019
