mRelief & Kroger Partner to Provide Fresh Access to SNAP
In our latest effort to connect Americans impacted by the digital divide, mRelief just partnered with Kroger, the 3rd largest retailer in the US, to make it easier for shoppers to enroll in SNAP. According to the Pew Research Center, 29 percent of people who make under $30,000 a year do not have access to a smartphone. And yet, 95 percent of these families have some kind of cell phone.
mRelief uses text messaging to help families sign up for SNAP. At the same time, Kroger Food 4 Less stores provide affordable food options for families, which are advertised in the weekly circular, released every Wednesday. With an initial pilot in Illinois and California where mRelief uses its platforms and partnerships to help families enroll, this latest outreach effort, which will engage 9.4 million shoppers, raises awareness for harder to reach communities who still must meet their food needs.

The process for getting started is as simple as texting the word FOOD to 74544. The client will be directed to brief questions which are available in English or Spanish that help them understand whether they are likely eligible for the program and the fastest way to apply. See our tool in action here.
As part of this awareness effort, a select number of stores will have stanchions, signs in the aisles, that enable families to know more about their SNAP eligibility.

We are excited to partner with Kroger and their bold social impact plan, Zero Hunger | Zero Waste, to address food security as part of our commitment to transform access to social services in partnership with governments, nonprofits, the private sector and, most importantly, everyday Americans on SNAP.
